There are plenty of correlations made between the sporting world and succeeding in a business environment. But for Jobfit’s General Manager of Operations, Mitch Harvey, they’re more than metaphors.
Mitch draws on his lived experience as a professional footballer to foster a strong culture of collaboration, empathy, and cohesiveness amongst his team. And it’s a winning formula for staff and clients alike.
Providing a critical stepping stone
A SANFL League premiership player who has played more than 150 games, Mitch is humble about his sporting background. These days his passion lies in making a real difference to Australia’s workforce with the occupational health services Jobfit provides to the aviation, construction, transportation, rail, mining and waste management sectors.
“A pre-employment medical is a critical stepping stone for many people to start their dream job,” Mitch said.
“Through our diverse client base, we coordinate and manage medical assessments for more than 200,000 people per year. We’re a key cog in the employment chain for businesses and for individuals. It’s a pretty good feeling to know we’re having that kind of impact.
“Similarly, by supporting employers to meet their work health and safety legislative requirements we’re ensuring people can go to work with the protection of strong safety governance.
“That’s a real privilege and one we take very seriously,” Mitch said.
People are the magic ingredient
Achieving and maintaining that level of service delivery requires strategic leadership and a highly effective, motivated team.
Responsible for the operation of Jobfit’s 50 clinics Australia-wide as well as overseeing the operations of the national contact centre, Mitch is tasked with ensuring Jobfit’s service delivery is at the exceptional standard the organisation has become renowned for.
“Nothing happens without people,” Mitch said.
“We have the best client and candidate service technology in the industry, we have fantastic processes and systems, but all of that is underpinned by an extremely driven team of people.”
“In every challenge and opportunity we’re faced with, my focus is on how we can achieve the best outcome as a group.
“As a leader, I’m about working alongside the team, not sitting on top of them. We set high expectations and I aim to build belief and balance. Each person is then empowered to bring their very best to the table,” said Mitch.
Every position on the team contributes to success
Mitch credits this strong team culture with Jobfit’s rapid growth into the number one occupational health provider in the country.
“Working as a team to identify the unique needs of each client and develop creative, tailored solutions to suit their specific needs is so rewarding,” Mitch said.
“I also love visiting our sites around the country where these tailored solutions are being implemented by our doctors, nurses, service personnel and administrative staff.
“Every step in the client and candidate journey is as important as the next. So, the diverse skills of our team are each equally valued,” said Mitch.
